The Old Hall
Welcome to the Medæval City of Ely
Ely is a Medæval Cathedral City founded in 673 when Princess Etheldreda, daughter of the Anglo-Saxon King Anna adopted Christianity & formed a Convent one mile north of the Saxon village of Cratendune, an act that later ensured her elevation to Saint Etheldreda. Ely was the last defence of "olde England" by Hereward the Wake against William "the bastard" Conqueror and later, the home of Lord Protector and "uncrowned King" Oliver Cromwell who used Ely's Cathedral to "stable" his horses ! - SEARCH ELY ONLINE -
