REVIEW - "
MICK's KITCHEN"
<< BACK TO PREVIOUS PAGE >>

Thursday the 8th of August was Irish Theme Night featuring "Mick's Kitchen" & Guests

On arrival @ the venue you missed Steve the Doorman who usually asks for your Entrance Fee of just £3 which goes towards a different local Charity for each event, plus this years Ely Feast, itself a Charitable Community Organisation and lastly, if enough "Hillman Hunters" show up, the Band..!

Mick's Kitchen Gig - The Score;
Money Raised, Result soon.

£Result soon. To a local Charity. Held over till next gig.

On Paddy's Night you should get out your banjo and your upside-down face and sing your heart out about how you "so hate" the English...

Apart from Blues and deep Country Artists can there be a more melancholy breed than the poor, forever oppressed Paddy Peasants.?

But not so the happy and contented English geezers, John, Colin & Shaun that are "Mick's Kitchen" and who presented an eager audience with a set of Irish jigs and laments to tap, clap & slap to..!

Mick's Kitchen don't have a drummer but that doesn't seem to matter as together the good ol'boys give plenty of beat to clap and sing along to. From "The Leaving of Liverpool" to "Whiskey in the Jar", "The Black Velvet Band" to "The Holy Ground", Mick's Kitchen cooks all them ol'favourites to a turn..!

THE BIT IN THE MIDDLE

Wot no AL..?!?
Where was big gay Al this week I heard the audience whisper...

Al has put in an appearance @ PURE for the last 4 Fund Raising Charity shows and felt he was over-exposing himself a little to much. As he has "previous" for "over-exposure" who can blame him, and it was left up to his lonely mate Mick to kick off the "Bit in the Middle"

Opening up with "One", made famous by that well known Irish Folk group U2 Mick must have thought he'd picked a bogey but the warm audience gave him such a good clap that he continued with a version of "The Fields of Athen Rye" a tear jerking hard done by Irish Rebel Song.

That was enough of his Solo Career and Mick was joined by Alan the Flutist-cum-Whistle player for a couple of Irish-ish jigs that also went down very warmly.

Performing in the "Bit in the Middle" again this week was "FF", or half of the great Local Band "JEFF" who gave us a couple of new songs in an Irish style.

Ian & Andrew once again delivered a professional set of songs with good harmonies and bags of confidence..

Andrew has got such a great voice that I know for sure that if Ely held it's own "Pop Idol" Competition Andrew would be there @ the top of the pile..!
Check them out when you get the chance.

Well, a good
"Bit in the Middle" completed, the audience were now all reved and ready to jig to Mick's Kitchen...

While we are on the subject, apparently PURE are looking for Kitchen Staff so if you are interested go here to apply.

As the "Kitchen" pumped out classic tune after classic tune it was not long before the audience became intoxicated on Stout and good vibrations and were dancing on the tables before you could say "Whyde y'wanna Kilkenny"..?

The Bouncers "Andy & Jamie" only got scuffed a little as all in all a wild night was had by Uncle Shamus McCobley and all.

This was a fitting conclusion to the current run of Feast Fund Raisers for 6 weeks which will bring us into the Indian Summer of Music run of gigs starting around THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 19th when it will be 50's Night with Local Rockers "Blue Suede Ouse"
