TOM COLBORN Gig - The Score;
Money Raised, £30
£10 To a Charity. Held over till next gig.

It was a bit different again this week...
This week the Feast Committee treated us to a Top Blues Guitarist / Singer by the name of Tom Colborn described by RealCity Magazine as a "brilliant blues Guitarist" and "prodigiously talented".

The theme for this week was the Blue's and locally, or Globally for that matter, they don't come much more Bluesy than Tom Colborn...

Tom's next engagements after this night @ PURE is The Cambridge Folk Festival which goes some way to describing just how good our Tom is at playing the Blues.

Tom looks a lot like Jarvis Cocker
when he was trendy and young but that is where the similarity ends as he batters out some real genuine sounding Blues songs. If I were in New Orleans and Tom was the entertainer, I would think he was the grandson of a famous Blues player...except he ain't black..!

THE BIT IN THE MIDDLE

"The Bit in the Middle"

Oh yes...
...them again..

The Max Sax Duo made interesting viewing again this week as they "Blues up" some classic Songs such as "How I learned to Sing the Blues", "Summer Time Blues", "Singing the Blues" and other songs with the word "Blue" in the title.

Instead of the Saxophone Al bought along his Midi Wind Sound Controlling Generator Instrument thang this week and treated us to some sounds that you just don't hear every day that fitted well with their version of the Blues which really did bring tears to the eyes...

Also performing in the "Bit in the Middle" this week was "JE", or half of the great Local Band "JEFF" who gave us some modern and original songs in the style of the Blues.

Ian & Andrew have performed this spot before and deserve respect for the fact that they dare, where others dare not for fear of ridicule, although it has to be said that not many have a voice as good as Andrew or a harmony as good as Ian.

Prince Charmin's the pair of 'em and it will not be long, I am sure, before JEFF, the full band will be appearing again @ PURE and other top venues..!

So back came Tom to play us out with some "real" Blues numbers where the "Bit in the Middlers" had just pretended...

Tom plays finger picking Blues & Slide Guitar Blues both, very convincingly. He played his songs and other people's songs
equally as effectively with gravel in his guts and spit in his eye.

I can say in all honesty, that if a Blues comeback is around the corner, Tom Colborn will be riding high on that new wave.

If it remains a niche, specialist market, you will find Tom playing the hippest Concept Blues bars.
